Arrival at Bicester Village for a luxury shopping experience

There are many ways to shop in England, but few are as relaxed and straightforward as a visit to

Bicester Village.

What makes it special is the ease of it all. A beautifully designed open-air setting, an extraordinary collection of British and international brands, and everything gathered in one walkable place so you can browse without racing across a city.

It feels polished, calm and welcoming — a very different rhythm from a busy day in central London.

I come here often, sometimes with guests and sometimes simply because I enjoy it. It never loses that sense of being a treat.

Many travellers plan Bicester Village as a half-day or day trip from London, and it is equally easy to include when staying in the Cotswolds.

Getting there from London Marylebone station

If you are based in London, the journey could hardly be simpler.

Direct trains run twice an hour at regular, set times throughout the day from Marylebone, and the journey takes around an hour. This makes Bicester Village one of the simplest luxury shopping trips from central London.

Tickets can be purchased in advance via the Trainline website or app, which many international visitors find particularly straightforward.

When you arrive, it is an easy walk of about five minutes to reach the entrance.

For those staying in Oxford, the trip is even quicker. A short train ride brings you to Bicester Village in around fifteen minutes, making it an effortless addition to your stay.

When I am visiting with guests as part of a Cotswolds & Couture Tour Day, I meet them at the station and drive them straight to the front entrance, which makes the arrival feel wonderfully smooth — particularly if you are carrying luggage or prefer not to walk.

I always reassure visitors not to feel nervous about travelling outside the capital — this is an easy, comfortable hop, and before you know it you are deciding which boutique to visit first.

What the experience feels like

One of the things I appreciate most is being able to access so many wonderful brands within such a manageable space.

Instead of navigating traffic, crowds and long walks between stores, you can move gently from place to place, take your time, try things properly and actually enjoy the day.

The boutiques are beautifully presented, and the teams are professional, knowledgeable and friendly. You feel welcome to browse, to ask questions, and to linger.

It is shopping that feels civilised. I often find myself leaving with something I had not realised I needed, yet suddenly could not imagine living without.

Why many visitors find it more relaxing than shopping in London

London shopping certainly has its glamour. However, it can involve queues, appointments and a considerable amount of ground to cover.

At Bicester Village, everything sits within easy reach. You can accomplish a great deal in a few comfortable hours and still feel fresh at the end of it.

For guests balancing a full sightseeing itinerary, that difference is invaluable.

Beginning the day in the VIP Apartment

When I visit with guests, we are able to start in the private Apartment — a calm, beautifully designed retreat away from the main walkways.

It is the most lovely way to arrive.

We can enjoy refreshments, settle in comfortably, chat through wish lists and plan where we would like to explore first. Styling appointments can be arranged, and with hands-free shopping available, there is no need to carry bags while you continue browsing.

For first-time visitors especially, this gentle beginning transforms the entire day. Instead of diving straight into the shops, you ease into the experience feeling looked after and completely unhurried.

It sets the tone beautifully.

Perfectly placed for exploring beyond the crowds

Another reason I love recommending Bicester Village is how well it fits into a wider journey.

From the eastern edge of the Cotswolds, it is around a 30-minute drive, which makes it very easy to combine countryside exploring with a little retail magic.

This side of the region often surprises people. While many visitors head directly to famous honeypots such as Bourton-on-the-Water or Bibury, the eastern villages feel quieter, more local, and still slightly undiscovered.

There are beautiful market towns, gentle Cotswold landscapes, independently owned boutiques and pretty little honey stone villages.

It is a wonderful contrast: peaceful days in the countryside, then an elegant shopping interlude — or perhaps the other way around.

A highlight of the trip

However people choose to include it, Bicester Village has a way of becoming a real highlight.

It is easy, beautifully organised, and indulgent without feeling overwhelming.

Many of my guests choose to enjoy the Village with me as part of a Cotswolds & Couture Tour day, which allows everything to feel wonderfully simple, relaxed and carefully looked after from start to finish.

If you happen to spot me in the boutiques, I will probably be deciding between something sensible… and something completely irresistible.
